Aye Caramba, what a fabulous summer that was: festivals with no mud, weekends with cloudless skies and loads of fresh air and sunshine for the kids to tire themselves out!
The beauty companies have been working tirelessly to bring us their newest ranges, making this the perfect time to indulge ourselves in a little ‘pick-me-up’ to take the edge off that back to school/end of holiday feeling.
Beauty Box has road-tested some newly launched and hero products to get your late summer off to a flying start. Treat-ville here we come!
*NEW* Benefit, Creaseless Cream Shadow, Always a bridesmaid, £15.50
yummymummybeauty rating 4.5
Benefit introduces its newest crease-proof cream shadows in a range of 10 perfect for late summer shades such as Bikini-tini (a divine oyster pink), Holy Smokes! (a sexy smouldering charcoal) and Blue my Mind (a clear sky arctic blue). Housed in a sweet art deco box and retro glass screw top container, this shadow is definitely more expensive than others on my dressing table, so is it worth the extra cash?
I sampled ‘Always a bridesmaid’, a beautifully eye-brightening shade of lavender, on one of the hottest days of the summer – surely the ultimate test for even the most die-hard shadow, and I have to say that this Cream Shadow came through with flying colours – fresh, non-creased and shimmering, even after a gruelling 12 hours – it survived a tough day in the office far better than I did!
Smooth on with a fingertip for a subtle wash of colour or apply with an applicator for extra staying power. Try the shadow as an eye-liner by sweeping on with a definer brush. Definitely worth the money and I’m going to treat myself to ‘Bronze have more fun’ for the Autumn www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk
*NEW* Benefit, Ultra Plush Lip Gloss, Poutrageous!, £14.50
yummymummybeauty rating 4.7
Benefit’s newest range of lip glosses have just sashayed into our stores in a range of 6 glam and wearable shades including Lollibop (hot pink), Fauxmance (soft berry) and A-Lister (bubblegum pink). With, as ever, Benefit’s adorable retro-styling to the fore, this cutely boxed gloss would make a fab gift for a lucky BFF or a well deserved treat for you!
I tried ‘Poutrageous!’, a pretty, go-with-anything bright pink-coral shade, which has gorgeous natural shine, smooth coverage, plus, and this is a major selling point for me, its not too sticky. The soft-squeezy tube with custom tip allows perfect application with or without a mirror, and is also handily see-through, so you know when it’s time to buy a new one.
I’ve spent a small fortune on overly gloopy glosses in a seemingly endless quest to find one which won’t superglue my hair to my lips at the first puff of wind. It’s just SO annoying! You leave the house looking all luscious, glossy and Kate Moss feel-good and by the time you get to the bus stop it’s all gone a bit Kenny Rodgers!
So, this gloss ticks all the boxes for me – brilliant colour, healthy shine and no girl-beard. I love! www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk
Clarins, HydraQuench Cream-Mask Dehydrated skin, 75ml, £33.00
yummymummybeauty rating 4.4
Is your face feeling more parched than peachy after this summer’s fantastic sunshine fest? Then give your complexion a thirst-quenching boost with brilliant Clarins hero product, HydraQuench Cream-Mask for dehydrated skin. This fresh, florally fragranced mask contains extracts of Madagascan Katafray bark, which is rich in Hyaluonic acid helping the skin to restore its moisture reserves, plus Sorbier bud, which revives and promotes a radiant, healthy look.
Apply this super creamy non-drying mask in a generous layer to the face and neck weekly for 5-10 mins and remove with toner to restore the skin’s ideal moisture balance and skin comfort. Yes, it really is that easy and you don’t need very much of it either, so this handy tube will last you ages. I really felt this made a big improvement to my skin, which felt a lot less tight and also smoothed out a few of the dry lines too. Result! A highly recommended ‘feel-good in a flash’ product. www.clarins.co.uk
*NEW* Champneys, Energising Lime Body Soufflé, 300ml, £10.00
yummymummybeauty rating 4.1
Put some zing back into your morning body care regime and smell good enough to eat with Champneys Energising Lime range. Their new spa formula treatments will wake up your senses with the invigorating aromas of fresh lime, orange fruit and peppermint oil.
The range includes Dual Body Wash & Bubble Bath, Bath & Shower oil – containing Monoi de Tahiti oil – which sounds intriguing, Foaming Body Scrub and Hydrating Gel with jojoba beads, which burst on contact for an extra nourishing boost.
I sampled the soufflé, which comes in a big generous tub packed with Cocoa Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Shea Butter, so plenty of nourishing goodness on offer here. The rich consistency needs a good massage in and this is not a dress in a hurry option, as the cream takes a while to sink in, but skin is left silky smooth to the touch. The scent didn’t stay for long, but layering the cream with a cleansing product would prolong the zestyness. A great mid-priced everyday treat for an energising kickstart to your day. www.boots.co.uk
