Cats eyes for spring

Eyes are sultry, chic and feline-esque (think Audrey Hepburn here, rather than Amy Winehouse) this season but you can also play with new looks, colours and textures.
From the vintage 60’s inspired ‘cats eyes’ look to a sophisticated smokey eye sweep; experiment with textures and glitter (metallics and sparkle), and check out the liners (top lid only) bursting with bright, fresh new colours. Be daring and create a unique new look that’s just for you.

Mascara
Think black or brown – and lashings of it! Create breathtakingly long, thick, lashes with some of the latest mascaras – if you’re a fan of fat mascara brushes, try Giorgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill Stretching Mascara, £24.50, for ultimate lash extension or L’Oreal’s False Lash Telescopic Infinite Length Mascara, £10.99, with a unique fibre formula in Magnetic Black. Or if you find that a smaller brush works best for you in coating even those tiny corner lashes, then try Dior’s Diorshow New Look Mascara, £23, with its exclusive nano-brush, or Bobbi Brown’s Intensifying Long-Wear Mascara, £18, for luscious, thick, but well-defined lashes. Every make-up bag should contain Estée Lauder’s Lash Primer Plus, £17; used under mascara it makes lashes look even longer and thicker.

Eyeliner
Go for a pop of colour with one of Collection 2000’s excitingly vibrant Intense Colour Supersoft Kohl Pencils in French Kiss or Peacock Feather, £1.99 each. Or for a softer, more natural look go for Lancome’s Le crayon Kohl in Indigo Paris, £15.50, or YSL’s Long Lasting Pencil in Ultramarine, £19. Work with your eyes here, not against them. What will work best for you depends on the colour of your eyes; try Estée Lauder’s beautifully soft Pure Color Intense Kajal Eye Crayon, £17,  in this season’s must have colour; Dramatic Teal. Experiment with chic cat’s eye glamour; a stunningly simple look that will take you through from a clean, fresh day look to a sophisticated evening look. Use a liquid or gel eyeliner, rather than a pencil; try L’Oreal’s Super Liner Gel Intenza in Golden Black, £9.99, or L’Oreal’s Super Liner Perfect Slim, £6.99, an easy to apply felt tipped liner. Don’t just stick with black though, try one of the exciting new colours for this season; Jemma Kidd’s I-Tech Liquid Liner in Abstract, £9, an extreme long lasting liquid liner in a velvety vintage green. Metallic sparkly liners will certainly get you noticed in the evening, especially when used under the eye, or on the inner and outer corners of the eye to brighten and make your eyes pop. Try Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Baked, £13,  – gorgeous glittery gold particles suspended in a clear gel.

Eyeshadows
The world is your oyster here – there are lots of different looks to choose from. Sweep a wash of delicate colour over eyelids with one of Benefit’s gorgeously feminine Velvet Eyeshadows, £13.50 each in Gimme some plum, Bikini Line or Leggy, try blending some shimmer on the eyes with Giorgio Armani’s Eyes to Kill range of stunning silk eye shadows, £24.50, for a lacquered effect – don’t be shy, use it even during the day to feel more inline with the new spring trends. For smokey eyes this season, go for elegant shades of harmonious greys and browns with Dior’s 5 Couleurs Designer All in One artistry Palette in Grège, £40. Go for a fresh faced focus on soft eyes with beautiful sheer shades – try Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette in Pastels, £30; four toning shades of satin and iridescent, silky colours in pistachio, peach, creme & mocha, or Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres eyeshadow collection in Éclosion, £37; create an individual look with matte, satin and metallic colours in gorgeous neutral tones of salmon, gold and chocolate. Update your evening look with one of the new Metallic Cream Eyeshadows, £2.99 each, from Collection 2000 in an intense range of colours from Emerald City to Platinum Bling and Rock N Rose.

Bold brows
Finally, leave those tweezers well alone; this season’s brows are seriously bold! Thicker doesn’t necessarily mean more bushy or shapeless, instead, they give a flattering frame to the face, leaving you with a more polished look. Try one of Bobbi Brown’s creamy, blendable Brow Pencils, £15 each, which work wonders if you’ve been a bit heavy handed in the past. Leave the shape well defined but natural and just add depth to the colour; this will give an instant lift to the face and brighten your eyes.
