MAC

SHEEN

MAC Sheen Supreme (New Temptation) £13.50

Unleash your inner Glamazon with the power of MAC Sheen Supreme. This lipstick glides on to give true colour impact and has the gorgeousness of MAC Lipglass shine too. It’s probably has more ‘sophisticated Pippa Middleton sheen’ than ‘full-on Donna Summer mirror-ball gloss’, but the gorgeous flame-red would suit every skin tone as it’s light, bright and really easy to wear. This is the lipstick I reach for whenever I need a confidence-boosting start to my morning. I let a friend test this too and after her first application, she reported a 50 per cent increase in door opening, 30 per cent more ‘Good Morning’s and an excited ‘Wow!’ at home. Not bad when you think about it – it was just a lipstick not a Victoria Beckham inspired low-cut red dress. So try one coat of New Temptation for a great day and two if you’re feeling adventurous. You’ll release your inner sassy-ness for Valentine’s Day. From www.maccosmetics.co.uk

Aveda Smoothing Lip Colour (Hot Pepper) Nourish-Mint, £12

If you feel like creating a little dark mystery on Valentine’s Day, then look no further than Aveda’s Hot Pepper Smoothing Lip Colour. This rich burgundy shade is a dramatic hit of luscious lip-plumping colour. Those clever Aveda people have infused this moisturising formula with fruit and plant waxes which hydrate and smooth fine lines, and following two weeks of use, 77 per cent of women noticed an increase in lip volume. Wow, bigger lips and it tastes and smells of sparkling spearmint and vanilla. It left my lips feeling soft and satiny with a refreshing hint of minty tingle. Perhaps not quite the staying power of others but still gorgeous. www.aveda.co.uk

Models Own, (Red Wine), £5

For sheer staying power, Models Own is at the front of the pack. This wonderfully priced berry lipstick will go on and on just looking fabulous all day long. The creamy, moisturising formula together with intense carmine red pigments makes the colour pop in this very wearable shade, which amazingly made my teeth look whiter. Again, I let another friend test this one and she has two teenage girls, and they all loved this lippy. My friend said that the girls were impressed but would have preferred a nude shade (see January’s Yummy archives – where’s their adventure!) but she was amazed that the lipstick had stayed on all night. So this product probably stains your lips – not forever – but for the day/evening which makes it the perfect brand because you can forget about your lipstick and concentrate on the important things… like kissing your valentine while out for dinner without covering him in lipstick and on eating instead of making sure your lipstick stays put. Great for the price too. From Boots or www.boots.co.uk

Karen Alder Trust, (Red), £8

This lipstick is by Karen Alder (make-up artist to the stars like Kylie and Pixie Lott) to raise money and awareness of the Prince’s Trust. This luscious red lipstick is a vibrant shade with a silky finish, plus all of the sales proceeds (excluding VAT) will go directly to the Prince’s Trust. Add a pop of colour to your make-up bag with this stylish way to support a fantastic cause – it’s very bright,  more pillar box red than deep; but so tempting at the same time. Pucker up. Parent tip for Eczema:

I just have to share a new discovery with you… a brilliant balm which positively treats my daughter’s facial eczema.  Having grown tired of trogging back and forward to the doctor for all manner of ointments and E45s (which didn’t work), I found Herbfarmacy’s organic skin care website and ordered their Skin Rescue Balm. This really does work. So now, no more chemicals, no more angry red patches and everybody’s happy! Hurrah! Skin Rescue Balm £11.75 from www.herbfarmacy.co.uk (Samples available too)
