The Red House Hotel in Coupar Angus is continuing to lead the way in the training of young people in hospitality.
The sole surviving hotel in Coupar Angus, The Red House Hotel is known for its long-serving employees, with three of its key staff – Assistant Manager Sarah Cooper, Front of House Carol Anne Key, and Chef George Arnott – now on more than 75 years service between them.
“We’ve been very fortunate that we have not lost any staff over the pandemic, and have local young people like Rachel Hallyburton from the town, who is in a front of house role, keen to progress their careers here at the Red House Hotel,” said Sarah Cooper. “Rachel has now been with us for nearly four years.”
“With the hotel being the type of place where we all become one great big family, Carol Anne and myself are on hand to put the necessary time in make sure that team members like Rachel have the support they need to thrive in their roles,” added Sarah.
“You can still have a long career in hospitality with career progression if you find the right place in which to work and put in the hard work and dedication required,” finished Sarah. “Myself, Carol Anne and George are proof of this!”
Rachel Hallyburton said: “As a local person I really enjoy working here at The Red House Hotel and not having to travel far to work in my chosen industry. Everyone is so friendly. We lost a couple of years really in terms of on the job training and experience due to the pandemic, but myself and the other younger team members are all now getting plenty of support in learning our craft every day.”
Alan Bannerman, the owner of the Red House Hotel which has been in his family for over forty years said: “I really appreciate Sarah, Carol Anne, and George’s efforts in passing on their many years of knowledge and wisdom in this industry to the younger team members, it is of such value and will stand them in good stead in the years ahead.”
“Thankfully, we are all back doing what we love with weddings and events on the cards, plus Christmas coming up. We have our new Garden Room now too and it’s proving very popular, a great asset to the Hotel.”
“With everything that has happened, never has it been more important to encourage young Scots to go into the hospitality industry – we have always recruited locally here. No two days are ever the same, and, as Sarah says, if you’re prepared to stick in you can easily end up at management level,” finished Alan.
