I have to admit I am one of the world’s worst when it comes to hanging onto old make-up. I’m sure there are a few museum pieces hoarded in the collection of bits and bobs in the back of my drawer. So, this Spring, I’m going to be ruthless and have a major clear out, well, ok, maybe not my beloved Chanel Lip compact from the year dot, but everything else!
If you follow our tips for Spring Cleaning your Make-up Bag – see our Features section – you’ll be positively crying out for something new and gorgeous! So, this month, we have road-tested a few newly launched and classic make-up pieces to bring some spring-spiration to your make-up bag. Have fun!
Fine-One-One, Cheek and Lip Brightener, Benefit, £23.50
yummymummybeauty rating 4.3
As you know, we love a multi-tasker on the Yummy Mothership. We also love a product, which gives our cheeks a healthy, peachy glow with very little effort! This pop in the bag all-rounder is a sheer brightener for cheek and lips, a compact twist up trio of Pink Champagne, Sheer Watermelon and Soft Coral, which blend into one coral pink flush.
Glide this baby from the apple of your cheek up to your temple and blend in a circular motion for natural colour or layer it up for ‘look at me’. I was expecting this blusher to be quite difficult to apply, but it glides onto the skin smoothly and dries as a powder. Add the highlighter onto cheekbones for extra luminosity or apply a swipe of colour to lips, perfect for a fresh look.

GinZing, Brightening Cream eye shadow, Origins, 5ml pot, £16
yummymummybeauty rating 4.2
These lovely cream eye shadows from Origins GinZing range, famed for their ability to brighten and depuff, come in a collection of 10 soft and subtle shades for day wear. They can be layered to build up intensity, used as a primer for powder shades, or mixed to create your own bespoke colour. It can be tricky to find just the ‘right’ shade of neutral for the eyes, but look no further than shades like Vroom Vanilla, Sugar Peach and, for a shot of colour zing, Blue-tiful Burst.
This is my first time with a cream shadow and I was really impressed with the subtle sheen and the fact that it did actually last all day. The Eye-Brightening Pearl Complex opened up my eyes and definitely made me look a bit more perky. A little bit of magic in a pot! www.origins.co.uk
NARS, Blush Orgasm, £21.50
yummymummybeauty rating 4.4
Superb coverage, uber-chic rubber packaging, this NARS’s cult classic still packs the same steel fist in a velvet glove. Does blush come much more natural than this? I think not! It gives cheeks that ‘just had a really good walk in the fresh air’ pinky afterglow, plus it adds a wicked hint of shimmer. Perfection!
