Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Eye mask, £35.80, for one month’s supply (4 packets)
yummymummybeauty rating; 3.5
What they say: “Like an energy drink for your eyes, this instant brightening treatment is ‘eye-deal’ for those who want to fake a full eight hours. With three forms of glow-inducing oxygen, antioxidant vitamin c and puff-pummelling cucumber extract, it’ll leave eyes looking lively in 15 minutes flat.”
What we think: Included in the box are four, single use, dual-chambered packets; just enough for a month’s supply if you use one a week. Each packet contains one pair of under eye shaped pads in one chamber and the fluid solution in the other; apparently, keeping the solution separate from the pads until use, ensures the efficiency of the product.
To actually use the mask you need to press on the fluid chamber until it pops; a feat in itself and quite terrifying as you think the whole thing is going to explode everywhere. Too complicated for me I’m afraid. The liquid then saturates the pads and you can go ahead and start your treatment. This product feels refreshing to use on the skin, it is non irritating and would be good for sensitive skins.
There seemed to be too much liquid in my pack and it kept dribbling down my face. The pads are easy to remove and there is no pulling or dragging when removed. My eye area looks less puffy, brighter and more hydrated and my eyes felt fresh, cooled and revived; they didn’t do anything to help my dark circles though. This eye mask is refreshing to use, but the benefits didn’t seem to last long an awfully long time; they would be great to use before a night out or as a reviving treatment for the morning after. Darphin Soothing Eye Contour Mask, £39
yummymummybeauty rating; 4.1
What they say: “Specially formulated for sensible eye contour, this mask calms, cools, helps firm and revitalize. Apply two or three times a week by gently tapping over the eye contour area. Leave on for five to 10 minutes, and remove the excess with the Gentle Eye make-up remover. Then apply the appropriate eye contour products. 86% of the total ingredients from natural origin. Formulated without parabens. Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.
What we think: Darphin’s Soothing Eye Contour Mask is a creamy white gel/lotion hybrid with no scent; it comes in a handy toothpaste type tube with a thin, easy to control nozzle which means no mess and no wastage. Gently pat into the eye contour area 2 or 3 times a week and leave for 5 -10 minutes. The mask has a silky smooth texture which feels lightly cooling on application; it slowly sinks in and leaves the eye area a little sticky.
To remove any excess, soak a cotton wool pad with eye make up remover or just use a damp muslin cloth. This mask is lightly hydrating and replenishing; it soothes and tones, reducing puffy eyes and leaving them with a brighter, revitalised appearance; a lovely light treat for tired eyes. I was pleased to find It didn’t leave a strange film over my eyeballs which some masks do, making them feel sore & dragged down. This is a gentle, non irritating mask even if you have sensitive eyes or skin and like all Darphin products, it has been formulated without parabens; this mask contains extracts of natural origin gentle ingredients such as Cucumber, Meadowsweet and Centella asiatica. Elemis Absolute Eye Mask, £29
What they say: “Combining the art of ancient remedies with the science of today, this synergy of Absolutes and vital extracts of Rose, Mimosa, Cornflower and Camellia, helps to counteract dullness and crepey texture, leaving the delicate eye area revitalized and feeling rejuvenated.”
What we think; This is a lightweight, creamy, gel type mask with a soft, floral scent; it comes in a hygienic, easy to use, tube with screw top lid. Pat sparingly all around the delicate eye area and leave for 8-10 minutes. I’ve been smoothing this round my eyes a couple of times a week whilst I have a regular moisturising mask on the rest of my face to save a bit of time; I understand it can also be applied sparingly and left on all night to work its magic.
Even if you used this Eye Mask 2-3 times as directed, it would last months & months. When the time is up, the Absolute Eye Mask can be easily removed with damp cotton wool or a squeezed out muslin cloth. I loved this mask; it left my eyes looking brighter and feeling more alert. My skin felt soft, smoothed and deeply hydrated; fine lines, especially the dreadful crows’ feet at the outer corners of my eyes looked plumped and toned. This is a gentle, safe and non irritating mask which would be great for sensitive skins; my eye area felt beautifully soothed and comforted, revitalized & rejuvenated after use and the feeling lasted all day. What they say: “An intensive treatment that works to help firm, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and minimize the under-eye puffiness that accompanies a high-adrenaline lifestyle.”
What we think; Skyn Iceland ‘s Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels come in a box of eight convenient sachets; each sachet contains a pair of soft, shaped eye gels. Remove the protective backing and gently press onto the delicate under eye area; leave for 10 minutes & then peel off. There is no snagging or pulling, so these would be great for thin, mature or sensitive skin.
I tried keeping these transdermal gels in the fridge before I used them; they felt deliciously cooling to use. These gels deliver a concentrated dose of revitalising goodies to the skin; Hydrolysed Elastin, Acetyl Hexapeptide, Ginko Biloga, Co-enzyme Q-10 and Skyn Iceland ‘s unique Biospheric Complex. After 10 minutes were up, my eyes felt soothed, brighter and less tired, fine lines were smoothed and puffiness reduced; my dark circles are still persisting though.
The results didn’t last as long as I’d hoped, but they were good for a quick boost once a week. These refreshing Eye Gels are great to pop in your handbag for girls on the go; to use on a flight to combat dehydrated eyes, or after a long journey. These patches have been developed using cutting edge technology which unfortunately didn’t hit the mark for me; a shame as I had high hopes for these eye gels, having tried andloved many of Skyn Iceland ‘s products in the past.
