Benefit The POREfessional PRO balm, £24.50 for 22ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.4

What they say; “Quickly minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skin tones and helps makeup stay put. Contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect skin from free radicals.”

What we think; Benefit’s The POREfessional is probably the first product you think of when Pore Minimizers are mentioned. It has a great reputation and I was keen to try it to see whether it lived up to the hype. This is a skin-coloured cream which comes in a squeezy tube with screw cap; it has a lightly-perfumed scent which fades after a few minutes.

It glides on easily and becomes completely sheer leaving skin super soft with that silicony type feel and a softly matte finish. It does need to be blended onto the skin well, otherwise it can leave a slightly dull, powdery finish. It gives a lovely soft focus look to fine lines and enlarged pores around my t-zone. Like all the products I tested, this will not hide pores completely, but it will significantly help to disguise the more obvious ones.

I found it worked brilliantly over cleansed, moisturised skin as a primer, however, when I tested touch ups during the day to cover up shiny areas, it did ball up a little (see my review on Benefit’s new powder version of The POREfessional which I think works much better than this one for touch ups during the day). I enjoyed using this PRO balm on its own or under make-up, but I’d definitely use The POREfessional Agent Zero Shine for touch ups during the day or in the evening. From

Clinique Pore Refining Solutions – Instant Perfector Invisible Bright, £20 for 15ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.4

What they say; “Look smooth and virtually flawless – instantly. Pores seem to disappear. Natural-looking matte finish lasts up to 8 hours as smart technology manages excess oil when and where needed. Resists sweat, humidity.”

What we think; Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions – Instant Perfector is available in three options – Invisible Bright for subtle brightening (which I tested), and two skin-toned shades; Invisible Light, and Invisible Deep. It comes in a neat little squeezy tube with secure screw-top lid; small enough to keep in your makeup bag.

The product itself is a thick cream formula with a very slippy silicony texture. Use sparingly and dot over the areas you want to disguise; usually the t-zone. Pat lightly, rather than smooth the product over skin using the pads of your fingertips. Pores are left looking tightened and enlarged ones less visible, skin is silky, smoothed and lightly mattified; I’m not keen on products which make your skin look too matte as it looks a tad mask-like!

This product definitely perked up my skin leaving it looking fresh and well rested; perfect as a primer under makeup. Foundation or tinted moisturiser glides over the top and it also works well with mineral powder foundation. If you need to touch up over makeup during the day to reduce shine, use only a little and tap in gently with fingertips, otherwise it may ball up a little. As with all the products I tried, they will conceal/disguise pores & fine lines; but it is unlikely that they will have any long term benefits. This is a great pore perfector; shame it doesn’t come in a bigger size though. From

Dr. Brandt Pores No More, £33.07 for 30ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.6

What they say; “Instant mattifying pore refiner formulated with microspheres and flaxseed. Minimizes pores; absorbs oil and mattifies shine; smoothes and evens skin. Use am after cleansing . Re-apply throughout the day, as necessary.”

What we think; Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More comes in an easy to use, mess-free tube with pump dispenser. It’s one of BeautyBay’s best sellers and is available in two formulas; the Original, or a tinted formula (which I tried) to conceal imperfections and give the complexion a light, sun-kissed glow.

It has a lovely velvety mousse-like texture which glides effortlessly onto the skin leaving the complexion soft and smooth with a light, powder-like texture. Apply to the problematic areas of your face ie. t-zone, and use sparingly as it spreads a long way, so you only need to use a little. Initially it has a slight oily/silicony feel on the skin, but once blended in, your skin feels super soft and non greasy. Pores No More contains Microspheres to diffuse light which smooths the appearance of the skin, disguising fine lines and enlarged pores, while the antibacterial properties of Tea Tree Oil and Flaxseed Extract help to regulate oiliness and shine leaving a soft, lightly matte finish.

This product can be worn alone, mixed with foundation or used as a primer under foundation; it can also be patted on over makeup during the day to conceal shine. Pores no more is great for all skin types, but particularly for oily or combination skin; I love the silky soft finish this it gives – pores almost look airbrushed. From major department stores.

Sisley GLOBAL PERFECT Pore Minimizer, £124 for 30ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.8

What they say; “A powerful skin-enhancing concentrate with an all-round corrective, preventative and treating action. At any age, GLOBAL PERFECT: minimises dilated pores; corrects uneven skin texture; instantly improves the appearance of pores. On each application, it blends easily into the skin to create an extremely natural smoothing and mattifying effect. Day after day, it ensures a flawless skin texture. Non-comedogenic. All skin types, including sensitive skin.”

What we think; This pore minimiser is a pale peachy coloured cream with a pleasant, lightly herbal smell. It feels like a luxurious face cream to use, rather than a silicone based product, even though it does contain silicone. I particularly loved it as it seems to sink into the skin rather than sitting in a layer over the top.

Global Perfect Pore Minimizer comes in a one of those double skinned pump dispenser which, as you know, I’m not a great fan of as you have no idea how much product you have left. I’ve used this on its own (over cleansed & moisturised skin) where it seems to even out the complexion making it look healthy & bright – all I’ve needed is a little concealer and a light dusting of powder. It also works well as a primer under foundation leaving skin a flawless base for your makeup. Pore Minimizer leaves skin with a smooth, semi matte finish which lightly blurs pores & fine lines; it regulates oil production & keeps the skin looking shine free for hours.

This product does have a hefty price tag, however, you only need to use a very small amount. I found it to be highly effective and particularly good if you dislike the very slippery silicony feel that some other similar products have. From
