This season, nail polish brands are giving us a real treat in terms of shades and textures; from crèmes, shimmers, sparkles and super glossy finishes to metallics and holographics. Inspiring colours which range from classic nudes to deep, rich autumnal, jewel toned shades; there is something for everyone.
Below are some of my favourites; NailsInc Nale Kale in Victoria, £15. A sophisticated deep, dark cherry (reminiscent of Rouge Noir); these polishes are a dream to apply with their wide, paddle shaped brush enabling speedy, streak free application.
Guerlain Colour Lacquers, £18 each. Available in 10 must-have shades. I tried 125 Vega; a decadent, rich chocolate creme with tiny sparkles. and 121 Rouge D’Enfer; a deliciously bright pillar box red creme with a very subtle blueish sparkle. Apply two coats for an impeccable finish. CND Vinylux Weekly Polish, £9.95 each. No base coat required; just apply two coats to clean nails, followed by one layer of the Weekly Top Coat.
These are ‘nail polishes that defy time’; with a breakthrough formula, these long-lasting polishes have a flawless finish which is resistant to chipping. Available in 62 fashion shades, inspired by the runway, I tried four shades from the new Modern Folklore Collection for A/W 14/15 – Indigo Frock #176, a slate grey creme with blue tones; Love Locket #128, a soft, metallic gold; Fine Vermillion #172, an orangey brown metallic with rusty tones; Crimson Sash #174, a beautiful burgundy red metallic, and my favourite of the bunch Rose Brocade #173, a sophisticated, vibrant red creme polish. Butter London, £12 each; – Blowing Raspberries; a delicious crushed raspberry creme has to be one of my all time favourites – perfect when red is too much and pink is not enough, and Lolly; a shimmery bright fuchsia pink.
I’m loving Essie’s new Fall 2014 collection (£7.99 each) which consists of 6 gorgeous shades; Partner in Crime; a creamy dark chocolate; Style Cartel, an inky cobalt blue, Dress to Kilt, a deeply seductive, juicy red; The Perfect Cover Up, a beautiful teal grey; Fall in Line, an enigmatic Jade, and Take it Outside; a punch fresh Taupe. Barry M has recently released a very autumnal collection of Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paints for this season, £3.99 each, consisting of Chai; a cool toned pale grey, Paprika; a spiced orangey brown, Cardamom; a beautiful cool teal green, Mustard; a deep mustard yellow creme, Chilli ; a rusty, creamy red (my favourite!) and Cocoa; a delicious milk chocolate crème. glossy, fantastic formulas and great prices; what’s not to love?
SEVENTEEN’s fantastic range of Gel Colour Nail Polishes, pictured at top of page, have an amazing gel look shine and intense long lasting nail colour, £3.99 each. I tried Razberrito; a fabulously hot coral pink, Mint Bon Bon a deep minty green with turquoise hints and Royal Indigo; a deep creamy purple. HEMA – a great new brand new to the UK from The Netherlands have an incredible range of over 150 shades (prices from £2.50 each)
I tried Speedy Red; a hot pillar box red, Chameleon Green; a striking green chrome shot with bronze and blue, and the very gorgeous Glitter Purple; a purply blue base with silver & purple sparkles. Rococo Nail Apparel Nail Polishes (£12 each) – I just adore the pretty little boxes these polishes come in! Creamy glossy shades with good coverage in a great selection of sophisticated shades., I tried Lab Nude 8.0; a flattering peachy creme, Utility Crème; a pale grey, and the stunning V.I.P. Crème; an iconic red.
Again, with top coats; there are many to choose from. Some fantastic, others not quite so great. My favourite of the bunch are;
Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, £8.36 – probably the best top coat I’ve ever tried; I cant remember how many bottles I’ve been through! Painted over wet or dry nail varnish, it leaves a super glossy, durable top coat which dries instantly. Great for girls in a rush!
Guerlain Top Coat Gel, £18.50, is a transparent formula resistant to scratches & water which leaves an exceptionally bright, shiny finish. This thick, gel texture leaves nails perfectly smooth & reinforced for long lasting protection. CND Vinylux Weekly Top Coat, £9.95. Specially designed to be used with CND Vinylux Weekly Polish shades; innovative technology creates incredible long-lasting wear, chip resistance and durability with exposure to natural light.
Rococo’s Supergloss Top Coat, £12, is a fast drying, beautifully glossy topcoat that adds depth, shine and protection against smudges and chipping.
Finish your manicure by sweeping Rococo’s Essential Nail Oil, £12.50, around cuticles; a deliciously almond scented daily moisturising and conditioning oil to encourage healthy skin, nail and cuticle growth; use as often as possible! Or try Handbag Holiday Cuticle Oil by Butter London, £13, intensive nourishment for cuticles containing natural oils & a cocktail of vitamins to sooth and heal. It has a gorgeous tropical coconut and pineapple scent; perfect to pop in your handbag and treat your cuticles on the move.
