The average British worker ‘runs out of steam’ by 1.40pm on a Thursday, a study conducted by SPATONE® Liquid Iron has revealed[i]. The study found that after a long week of dealing with hectic schedules and hefty workloads, most workers begin to wilt by Thursday afternoon.

Many admitted to counting down the days until the weekend when they can recharge their batteries or even pull a sickie on a Friday because they are struggling so much at the end of the week.It also emerged almost half have pulled out of weekend plans because the working week has left them feeling so drained.

SpaTone apple-2 boxesNgaire Mitchell, a spokesman for natural iron food supplement SPATONE, which commissioned the research, said: “The working week can be long and tiring and it seems many find it difficult to keep their energy levels up until the weekend. As the week goes on, you might start running out of steam, and it seems like many workers really struggle after Thursday lunchtime.

“But while long hours or busy workloads can have an effect and make you feel tired as the week goes on, things like cold, wet weather and dark mornings and evenings, or even low iron levels can also leave you feeling drained. Feeling tired can have an effect on your productivity, your social life and even your relationship, so it’s important to try and take action whenever you can. Allowing more time for a bit of rest, eating healthily and making time to exercise, can make it much easier to get to the end of week without running out of steam.’’

The study, of 2,000 workers found 87% say there are times when they feel low in energy or tired, with almost nine in ten admitting they start to run out of steam as the week goes on. One in four even said this happens to them every single week, with Thursday afternoon the point in the week when Brits are likely to have the least energy.

????????????????????????????????????????In comparison, we are most likely to feel full of beans on a Saturday, followed by Mondays and Fridays. But rather than seeing out the rest of the week, almost four in ten have taken a Friday off to start the weekend early, while another 30% admitted to pulling a sickie because they couldn’t face another day in the office.

Six in ten have even booked annual leave, and spent the time resting up at home rather than actually going anywhere because they were feeling so tired. Sleepless nights are most likely to be the cause of feeling tired towards the end of the week, followed by dull, wet or cold weather and the dark, winter mornings and evenings.

Hectic work schedules, early mornings and large workloads can also leave many struggling as they approach the weekend break. It also emerged the average adult will complain about being tired or low in energy twice a day, with 82% saying their productivity levels drop as a result. Another nine in ten said their general mood can be affected due to tiredness when they hit at the end of the week.

A spokesman for SPATONE added: ‘’The survey shows that over two thirds of Brits have not considered that low energy levels could be down to low iron. For those who can’t get their iron requirements from dietary sources alone could consider taking a natural food iron supplement like SPATONE.

‘’SPATONE contains SPATONE  iron rich water sourced from the Welsh mountains of Snowdonia National Park – which can help top up iron levels whilst causing fewer of the unpleasant side effects often experienced with conventional iron food supplements[ii]. Generally, iron is a very difficult mineral for the body to absorb. However, the iron naturally present in SPATONE has been shown to be easily absorbed, with an average of 40% bioavailability[iii]. Food and iron food supplements typically have a 5-20%[iv] bioavailability.’’
