Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips – £11.50 for 15ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.4

What they say; “ Discover the secret passed from nursing mothers to make-up artists. An ultra hydrating SOS balm & long lasting moisturising lip-gloss. 100% natural, hypoallergenic, tasteless and colourless. Rich & ultra effective. Use on any dry skin areas including lips, nipples, cuticles & feet etc. Loved by London’s make-up artists.… so kissable!”

What we think; Dr Lipp’s Original Nipple Balm for Lips has a cult status; adored by Make-Up Artists and Beauty Editors and used as an essential piece of their makeup kit. Its a great little hydrating, hypoallergenic, multi-tasking product which comes in a chunky little tube with screw top lid.

The product itself contains only medical grade lanolin, is pale yellow in colour and has a light, not unpleasant lanolin scent. The texture is a thick, slightly sticky ointment; it is quite solid and can be a little tricky to squeeze out of the tube. Original Nipple Balm is silky, smooths easily onto the lips leaving them soft and beautifully moisturised with a lovely glossy shine; it makes a wonderful overnight lip mask as it is long-lasting and stays on the lips well. It’s a fantastic, versatile product which can be used for anything from healing burns, eczema and moisturising any intensely dry skin areas; to lip gloss, lip primer or even as a shoe polish (although I haven’t tried this yet!) From

Nuxe Rêve de Miel – Ultra-Nourishing Lip Balm with honey and precious oils – £9.50 for 15ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.1

What they say; “This concentrated formula helps nourish, repair, soothe and protect lips (Honey, Plant Oils, Shea Butter, Grapefruit Essence).”

What we think; Rêve de Miel is one of Nuxe’s best-selling products, and for good reason! This is a thick, honey coloured balm with a lovely citrussy/honey scent which comes in a little frosted glass pot with screw topped lid.

It contains honey, super soothing plant oils, beeswax, nourishing, repairing shea butter and soothing grapefruit and lemon essence. It has a thick, waxy, slightly grainy texture which feels really unusual when on the lips; moisturising, but almost dry, and seems to me like a hybrid lip protectant or barrier cream.

I found it easier to warm a little of the product between my fingertips before application as its so thick. This product is aimed at those with dry, sensitive skin, however, this it would easily suit those looking for gentle, nourishing lip care as it leaves the lips soothed, comforted and softened with a velvety matte texture.

This lip balm can be applied as often as needed during the day, or smoothed on at night for an intensive lip treatment. This pot is quite a heavy addition to your handbag; I only wish it came in a plastic pot, or even a tube as I’m not that keen on sticking my finger in the tub and getting it covered in product. From

Sisley Nutritive Lip Balm – £38 for 9g

yummymummybeauty rating 4.7

What they say; “ Extremely repairing balm. Rich in natural plant extracts (Shea Butter and Kokum Butter), known for their nourishing and soothing properties, and Vitamin E, an anti-free radical, Confort Extrême Lèvres instantly soothes chapped lips, dried out by exterior aggressions (cold, wind, sun…), nourishes and provides long lasting protection. With continued use, desquamations disappear. Hydrated, lips are beautified and become soft and plumped up. An easily absorbed rich texture, shiny yet non-sticky, for an ultimate sensation of extreme comfort. Apply generously, as often as desired.”

What we think; This super moisturising lip balm is formulated with a plant oil base of sunflower, plum kernel and hazelnut, along with kokum and shea butters. It comes in a cute little pink plastic pot with screw top lid and a tiny spatula to keep the product more hygienic.

This is a rich, thick, lightly citrus scented balm which has no synthetic colours or fragrances; it doesn’t feel greasy or sticky to use, but just melts onto the lips, easing the discomfort of sore, cracked lips (its also great on long-haul flights or for tender sunburnt lips).

This Nutritive Lip Balm acts as an emergency rescue treatment for the most dry, cracked lips as it penetrates quickly leaving them moisturised, soft and luscious; comforted, softened and smooth with a lovely glossy sheen. Again, I so wish this gorgeous balm came in a tube as I’d find it easier to use. This is a fantastic product with a hefty price tag, however, it will last a long time as you only need to use a tiny dot to give comfort to your lips. From

Clarins Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm with essential rose wax – £18 for 15ml

yummymummybeauty rating 4.9

What they say;“ This lip care promotes immediate comfort, hydrates, protects and enhances lip beauty. The slanted tip makes application quick and easy.”

What we think; This pale pink, delicately scented lip balm has a lovely soft jelly-balm type texture; it is a mineral oil based balm containing essential rose wax to soothe & protect, Shea butter and rice oil extract to nourish and plant extracts to replenish & revitalise. Ceramides help to repair raw, peeling, chapped lips and the Maxi Lip™ complex assists in plumping. It comes in a hygienic, easy to use squeezy tube with screw cap & slant tipped applicator; economical to use with no wastage. This emollient balm literally melts onto the lips leaving them moisturised & soothed, enhancing their beauty with a gorgeous sheen. Clarins’ Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm feels delicious to use, my lips are left softened, protected and hydrated; ready to face the elements.

I found this balm convenient & easy to use; great to pop in your handbag when out & about or to stuff in your pocket for emergency re-applications when out dog walking. From
