NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils – £17.50 for 2.8g

yummymummybeauty rating 4.7

What they say; “Gorgeously glossy colour in a jumbo lip pencil. Spectacular shine in an innovative, lightweight formula and enriched with Vitamin E plus a blend of moisture-rich hyaluronic spheres that make lips appear fuller. Ultra smooth, butter feel on the lips. Contains vitamin E, hyaluronic spheres and phytosterol esters; ingredients known to moisturise, increase hydration and improve barrier function. Convenient, easy application.”

What we think; These Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils are stylish, slimline matte black crayons which come in a sophisticated range of 10 shades – New Lover; a gorgeous strawberry pink tinged with gold, Hopi; a golden Honey beige, Baroque; a deep raspberry sorbet, Buenos Aires; a nude beige pink, Club Mix; a sheer grape, Cytère; soft metallic rose, Frivolous; an iridescent, seashell pink, Happy Days; Pink coral infused with gold shimmer, Mexican Rose; a vibrant hot pink, and More; a rich, golden Auburn. These super glossy lip crayons are silky soft and smooth on like butter; they are convenient and easy to use. They’re beautifully moisturising and non sticky; don’t dry the lips out and won’t feather around the lip-line. There is a good level of colour pigmentation leaving a semi transparent finish; sweep over lips for a light touch of hydrating colour, build up layers for a more defined look or use alongside a lip liner for more definition. These Velvet Gloss Lip Pencils are easy to sharpen with a chunky sharpener – Bourjois do a great one for £2.49, available from Boots. My only niggle with this lip crayon is that you do tend to waste quite a bit of product whilst you’re sharpening it. They are very soft, so I found that if you pop them in the fridge for an hour or so before sharpening, they won’t go mushy! From

Sisley Phyto Lip Twists – Tinted Balm £28 for 2.5g

yummymummybeauty rating 4.9

What they say; “Phyto-Lip Twist gives colour, skin care and shine in a single twist. As much colour as a lipstick, as cocooning as a balm, as shiny as a gloss, Phyto-Lip Twist combines skin care ingredients to moisturise and protect, with highly pigmented polymers for intense colour and a glossy finish. A portable, easy to use lip colour that plumps and smoothes lips with a light texture.”

What we think; I’m loving the funky zebra print packaging of these jumbo sized Phyto Lip Twists with their bright red Sisley branding; they’re really eye-catching! They’re also a lot more robust than some of the other Lip Crayons I tried; the lids don’t pop off or split, and they do stay on securely. They contain a disappointing 3cm of product in the crayon, but that is my only bugbear. They’re super easy to use and theres no waste as they just twist up & down & theres no need to sharpen. The product inside comes in a lovely silky soft, thick bullet with gently rounded tip which makes it a breeze to define and shape the lip. Available in six flattering shades; 1; Nude – a soft beige, 2; Baby, a tender pink, 3; Peach, a zesty coral, 4; Pinky, a luminous fuchsia pink, 5; Berry, a succulent plum, and 6; Cherry, an intense red – they’re all very wearable colours which should suit most skin tones. They have fun, glossy finishes on the lips with adaptable colour; wear them sheer or layer up for a more vibrant look. They are beautifully moisturising, feel comfortable & nourishing to wear; are non drying and non sticky. Typically Sisley, these are super stylish and fantastic quality; you definitely get what you pay for here. From

Bourjois Color Boost – Glossy Finish Lipstick £7.99 for 2.75g

yummymummybeauty rating 4.4

What they say; “A Lip crayon bursting with vibrant colour and irresistible moisture! With its melting formula, Color Boost leaves a radiant veil of colour on the lips with just enough shine and moisture to enhance each shade. A new generation formula that provides a bare lip sensation thanks to its light and non-sticky texture. With its silk extract formula, Color Boost brings comfort and hydration to your lips for 10 hours*. Its waterproof colour and SPF 15 make Color Boost both practical and beautiful!”

What we think; Bourjous’ Color Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick is available in 5 vibrant shades – Red Sunrise; a flattering deep red with orangey pink tones, Fuschia Libre; my favourite of the bunch – a cool-toned, but bright pink with hints of lavender, Orange Punch; a cool, flattering orange, Peach on the beach; a great everyday peach with pink tones, and the one I tried – Plum Russian; a sophisticated deep berry. The packaging is very similar to the original Clinique Chubbies; the cap stays on well and its made from sturdy plastic, so I didn’t have a problem with cracking, however the silver writing on the crayon did seem to wear off quickly in my make-up bag. Inside is a nice thick bullet making it easy to apply, leaving a lovely glossy balm like sheen on the lip. Whilst the gloss wears off fairly quickly; the colour still remains for a few hours leaving more of a stain than a shiny veil of colour. The shades are buildable, and if you blot between layers, they will last a little longer; they lasted about 4 hours on my lips without completely wearing off. They feel weightless and are nicely hydrating and comfortable to wear; there is no colour bleeding around the lips. Annoyingly you only get about 3.5cm of actual product in the tube (about 1/3 size of the actual packaging) – disappointing, but nevertheless, these lip crayons are still very good value for money. From

Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker™ Gloss Stick – 3D Volume Shine £8.00

yummymummybeauty rating 4.3

What they say; “This super-light, ultra-hydrating lip crayon glides effortlessly onto lips, leaving behind an unmissable pretty sweep of creamy, moisture-rich colour & shine, thanks to the GLOSS-FIX™ FINISH and ULTIMELT™ Lip Shine & Shaping Technology in 3 juicy shades. Special BUZZ-FREE formula (this one visually volumises without the Sexy Mother Pucker tingle) that helps to make lips look fuller, employing the bouche-boosting powers of collagen pre-peptides and Soap &Glory’s special 3D PLUMP™ Complex”

What we think; I’ve managed to track down five shades of Soap & Glory’s Sexy Mother Pucker™ Gloss Sticks (although their website lists only 3); Bashful, Fuchsia Ristic, Nudist, Plum Jam and Raplumzel. I tried Nudist, which is the perfect flattering nude shade with slightly beigey orangey leanings. The packaging is fairly standard for a lip crayon, however it doesn’t have a massively sturdy cap; mine has split and keeps coming off in my handbag which is annoying & jolly messy. They have a creamy soft, beautifully silky formula which feels light and moisturising on the lips, however, they don’t have a great deal of staying power and only lasted a couple of hours on me. Again, similar to the Bourjois and Sisley products above, you get significantly less product than you’d hope for in a lip crayon of this size. None of these Gloss Sticks have a huge amount of colour pigmentation, but they do give a beautifully glossy, almost wet look finish, plus a subtle hint of colour to the lips. It is possible to get slightly more colour payoff if you go over & over your lips with the crayon, but not a significant amount. The shades look quite different in their casings, but I didn’t notice a huge difference in the colour once applied to the lips. Despite the lack of colour payoff with these Gloss Sticks and their limited amount of actual product, I love them for their glossy, wet sheen like finish & the flattering wash of colour that they give. From
